DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Arrive in time and takes handover of patient bed to bed.
  • Carry out the following assigned jobs given by your superior according to your privilege.

  • Under Observation (Baby Received From OT/ Labour Room/ Ward)

  • Plan and provide the basic care according to the priority needs of the patients.

  • Ensure that barrier nursing care strictly followed for isolation babies.
  • Maintain interpersonal relationship with staff, patients, families and community.
  • Transportation of patients to and from external centers.

 ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES

  • Keep adequate supplies (medicine, injection, linen etc.) and does inventory regularly.
  • Keep custody of drugs and maintains record of its administration.
  • Checks all emergency drugs and equipments daily and assist in maintaining the inventory and check no expiry or near expiry drugs are exchanged in time.
  • Creates therapeutic environment in the ward.
  • Responsible for all the medical equipments are kept clean and hygiene and in perfect working condition for ready to use at all time.
  • Inform any breakage or damage caused for the equipments.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate equipments and supplies to meet the demand.
  • Strictly avoid wastage of your stationery items in the unit.
  • Inform In-Charge Nurse in case of any shortage of supplies.
  • Accountable for maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene of the unit, temperature and oxygen supply.
  • Coordinate with In-Charge Nurse in case of transport need for shifting the babies from other hospital to NICU from NICU to OT.
  • Strictly follow the biomedical waste management procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a infection free area by periodic fumigation.

EDUCATIVE ACTIVITIES

  • Participate in CNEs, training programs etc.,
  • Implement the training received at work.
  • Educate mothers with regard to hygiene and hand wash techniques before entering to NICU
  • Educate mothers on breast feed and new born care & Immunization.
  • Responsible to complete the allotted training hours within the said period.

SUPERVISORY ACTIVITIES

  • Supervises and guides co-workers (Ayahs, Ward boys etc.)

RECORDING AND REPORTING ACTIVITIES

  • Report Critical patient’s condition promptly to the concerned person (Doctor, Nursing Superintendent)
  • Responsible to fill the nominal registers and fill all columns are filled in properly.
  • Assist in updating the stock register once in three month
  • Informs in advance while taking leave and don’t extend the leave beyond the applied period.
  • Record and report nursing care, treatment, medicine correctly and promptly.
  • Report any losses and breakage in the unit without fail.

COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES

  • Provide Psychological support to patient and relatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ER:

  • Delivering quality nursing care with compassion, competence and critical thinking skills in ER
  • Demonstrating caring, comforting qualities and communicates with an empathetical and individualistic approach.
  • Performing triage, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements
  • Performing first aid measures (cleaning and bandaging wounds, splints etc) by proper assessment.
  • Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patient and assists with advanced care life support
  • Assisting in life saving measures like intubation and advanced cardiac support.
  • Work directly with physicians, assisting them during patient physical examination, diagnostic testing and treatment plan.
  • Ensuring the provision of safe environment in both preventive and promotive aspects for all patients, relatives and significant others.
  • Maintaining interdepartmental, inter-unit coordination and communication.
  • Possessing knowledge regarding the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and clinical protocols of ER.
  • Interpreting the department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and accreditation bodies as required.
  • Liaising with consultants and heads of other departments for effective implementation of patient care and minimizing errors of omission and commission.

  • The ER RN and paramedic recognizes and effectively treats life-threatening conditions, with the ability to deploy rapid assessment and treatment of patients in highly critical situations, particularly during the initial phase of acute illness and trauma, where every second is important.
  • Emergency department nurses and paramedic must possess knowledge about healthcare on general and specific levels and provide quality care to patients of all ages.
  • An emergency nurse must have the ability to make quick and accurate assessments about incoming patients, including both physical and mental health conditions.
  • To specialize in assessing, intervening and stabilizing a variety of trauma and illnesses with decisive action and they must be knowledgeable about general as well as specific health issues.
  • Maintaining professional decorum at all times.

  • Ensuring safe transportation of the patient to diagnostic tests/other wards or units.
  • Conducting an initial thorough assessment of every patient upon admission.
  • Performing ongoing reassessment of patients to identify needs and problems.
  • Raising menu card upon admission and as and when the dietary needs alter.
  • Ensuring that the paramedical services reach patients on time. For example: Physiotherapy, Dietary.
  • Making keen observation for early identification of warning signs of complication.
  • Participating effectively in hospital infection control policies including hand-washing, bio-medical waste management, cleaning and deep cleaning protocols, needle-stick injury protocols, spill management, prevention of surgical site infection, prevention of catheter related blood stream infection, prevention of catheter related urinary tract infection, prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, guidelines for Hospital Acquired infections (MRSA, Acinetobacter and so on).
  • Practicing safe medication management principles that include drug calculation, IV therapy, drug indenting and administration, prevention of drug errors, monitoring of fridge temperature, look alike and sound alike medications and crash cart maintenance.
  • Ensuring that all he/she has undergone the BLS and overview of ACLS training, Modified Earning Warning Score (MEWS) training, code blue management.
  • Following patient safety goals including provision of care for the vulnerable patients.
  • Safe transportation of patient interhospital and Intrahospital. Communicating patient condition to respective areas before transportation. Accompanying sick patients while being transported
  • Supervising non – professional staff in the cleanliness and orderliness of the ward and transportation of the patient.
