In the relentless rush of deadlines and daily responsibilities, our own health is frequently the first casualty. We convince ourselves that we will address that persistent lower back ache when our schedule clears, look into that chronic nasal congestion next month, or investigate that recurring abdominal discomfort “later.”

Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals Achieved Top Rankings in Times Critical Care Rankings 2026

Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals was recognized among the leading multispecialty hospitals in the Times Critical Care Rankings 2026, reflecting the institution’s commitment to clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and academic leadership.

In the specialty of Pediatrics, the hospital secured 1st rank in Chennai, 6th rank in South India, and 16th rank nationally. In Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBGY), the hospital achieved 3rd rank in Chennai and 15th rank in South India. The Nephrology department was ranked 4th in Chennai and 12th in South India, while Urology secured 4th rank in Chennai and 17th rank in South India.

Department of Infection Prevention and Control Celebrated Hand Hygiene Week

The Department of Infection Prevention and Control celebrated Hand Hygiene Week during the second and third weeks of May 2026 at Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals, Chetpet. The initiative focused on creating awareness about the importance of hand hygiene among children, patient attendants, and healthcare workers, reinforcing best practices in infection prevention and patient safety.

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer Served as Faculty at FALS (Hernia) – FIAGES 2026 Fellowship Program

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer, Deputy Head, Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, was invited as Faculty for the FALS (Hernia) – FIAGES 2026 Fellowship Program conducted by IAGES at The Leela Palace, Chennai. He also contributed as a panelist during the live operative sessions and served as Chairperson, actively participating in academic discussions with national faculty members and delegates. His contributions enriched the program through the sharing of expertise, clinical insights, and advancements in hernia surgery and minimally invasive surgical practices.

National Webinar on Hyperkalaemia Management Conducted on World HK Day 2026

As part of World HK Day 2026, the national webinar “United Against Hyperkalaemia” was conducted on 2 May 2026. The session focused on improving the management of hyperkalaemia in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Heart Failure through practical strategies aimed at optimizing Guideline-Directed Medical Therapy (GDMT) and RAAS inhibitor use.

Dr. Mugundhan Received Best Teacher Award at International Conference

Dr. Mugundhan, Consultant, Neurosurgery, received the “Best Teacher Award” at the International Headache and Neuro-Ophthalmology Conference 2026 held at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai, on 8 May 2026. The award recognized his outstanding contributions to medical education, mentorship, and academic excellence.

Dr. Priya Kannappan Served as Panel Moderator and Panelist at Samanvay FOGSI VP Conference

Dr. Priya Kannappan, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, served as Panel Moderator for the session on “Venous Thromboembolism in Pregnancy and Lactation” at the Samanvay FOGSI Vice Presidential Conference held in Indore on 9 May 2026. The session focused on risk assessment, prevention, and evidence-based management strategies for venous thromboembolism during pregnancy and lactation.

She also participated as a panelist in the session on “Hypertension in Pregnancy,” contributing to discussions on current guidelines, clinical challenges, and best practices in the management of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy.

Department of Nursing Organized National NRP Day 2026

The Department of Nursing at Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals organized National NRP Day 2026 on 10 May 2026 at the Basement Auditorium, Chetpet. The program focused on enhancing neonatal resuscitation knowledge and life-saving skills among healthcare professionals through structured training sessions and expert guidance.
A total of 85 participants attended the event and benefited from the hands-on training and interactive learning experience. The program highlighted the importance of timely neonatal resuscitation and reinforced the commitment of healthcare professionals to improving newborn care and saving lives.

Dr. Priya Kannappan, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, participated as a panelist in a discussion organized jointly by the Chennai Menopause Society (CMS) and the IMA Ambattur–Avadi Branch at JP Hotels. The session focused on “Case-Based Discussion on Menopause and Women’s Health,” addressing key aspects of menopausal care and women’s health management.

Dr. Priya Kannappan, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, served as Quiz Master for the PG Quiz on Contraception conducted as part of the SRMC OG Quest Postgraduate Revision Program. The interactive session encouraged knowledge enhancement and active participation among postgraduate students.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Contributed as Author to Upcoming Atlas of Arthroscopy

Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Consultant, Orthopedics, contributed as an author to the upcoming Atlas of Arthroscopy to be published by Springer Nature. His contribution focused on ACL reconstruction surgery, reflecting his expertise in arthroscopic and sports injury management and contributing to an important educational resource for orthopedic professionals.

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer Explored SSI Mantra Robotic Surgical Platform

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer, Deputy Head, Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, visited the SSI Mantra Headquarters for a hands-on experience with its robotic surgical platform. Already certified in both the Intuitive Da Vinci platform and the CMR Robotic System, and actively performing robotic surgeries since 2019, he explored the capabilities and technological advancements of the SSI Mantra system. The visit provided valuable insights into emerging innovations in robotic-assisted surgery and reinforced his commitment to advancing minimally invasive surgical care.

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer Successfully Utilized Arista AH Absorbable Hemostat in High-Risk Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer, Deputy Head, Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, became the first surgeon to utilize Arista AH Absorbable Hemostat during a high-risk laparoscopic cholecystectomy in a patient with a significant bleeding tendency. Arista AH, a plant-based absorbable hemostatic powder designed for rapid control of surgical bleeding, proved to be a valuable adjunct in achieving effective hemostasis during the procedure. Fully absorbed by the body within a few days, the innovative technology enhanced surgical safety and demonstrated its potential role in managing complex surgical cases.

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer Delivered Talk on Chronic Obesity as a Metabolic Disorder

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer, Deputy Head, Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, was invited by the Cipla Obesity Team to deliver a talk on “Chronic Obesity as a Metabolic Disorder.” The session highlighted the long-term health impact of obesity and emphasized the importance of evidence-based management strategies.
Over the past eight months, the Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery has been actively managing obesity and obesity-related conditions using once-weekly injectable therapy containing Tirzepatide. Building on this clinical experience, the department has also been conducting a monthly online academic program for physicians, focusing on contemporary approaches and advancements in obesity management.
