Dr. H. Sumayya Fathima – Speaker at CAHO Jeevan

Dr. H. Sumayya Fathima, Deputy Head – Clinical Operations & Consultant Microbiologist, was invited as a Speaker at CAHO Jeevan, held at Sree Renga Hospital, Chengalpattu.

She delivered an insightful session on “Clean Care, Safe Care – Making Infection Control Work in Hospitals,” focusing on practical strategies, evidence‑based protocols, and achievable standards for strengthening infection prevention practices across healthcare facilities.

Ms. Karthiga Devi Delivered a Talk on Infusion Safety at JIPMER CNE Program

Ms. Karthiga Devi, Deputy Head – Nursing Operations, delivered a talk on “Standards of Infusion Practices: Current Guidelines and Standards for IV Therapy.”
Her session emphasized evidence‑based infusion practices, safety protocols, prevention of IV‑related complications, and quality benchmarks for optimal patient care. Her contribution added significant value to the national‑level CNE focused on improving infusion safety and nursing excellence.

Dr. Premkumar, Department of Anaesthesiology, delivered an engaging session on “Regional Analgesia in Trauma (On‑Arrival Block)” at Panimalar Medical College Hospital on 13th February 2026.

His talk covered rapid‑onset analgesia techniques for trauma patients, emphasizing safe administration, early pain control, and improved outcomes in emergency and perioperative settings. The session was well received by trainees and practicing clinicians for its practical, hands‑on approach.

Dr. Ragul Delivered Multiple Complex Case Presentations at the 6th Deccan Case Based Paediatric Urology Meeting

Dr. Ragul, Pediatric Surgeon, presented a series of challenging and rare pediatric surgical cases at the 66th Deccan Case-Based Pediatric Urology Meeting 2026, held from 13th to 15th February 2026. His presentations highlighted advanced surgical expertise and multidisciplinary decision‑making in complex pediatric conditions.

    A rare and high‑complexity case showcasing diagnostic precision and coordinated surgical planning.
  2. Dumbbell‑Shaped Abdominal Neuroblastoma – Complete Excision
    Demonstrated meticulous operative technique in achieving complete removal of n unusual tumour configuration configuration.
  3. Neuroblastoma with Opsoclonus‑Myoclonus Syndrome and Renal Vessel Encasement (R0 Resection)
    Highlighted successful resection despite vascular involvement, emphasizing advanced intraoperative judgment and skill.
  4. Laparoscopic Management of Complex Ovarian/Para‑Ovarian Cysts in Children
    Showcased minimally invasive approaches with ovarian preservation, underscoring the importance of fertility‑sparing surgery in pediatric patients.

His presentations were widely appreciated for their depth, clarity, and practical surgical insights.

Dr. Priya Kannapan Represented Chennai Private Practitioners at NHM Meeting

On 17th February 2026, Dr. Priya Kannapan, Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology represented private doctors from Chennai at a key meeting with NHM Director, Dr. Arun Thamburaj, under the National Health Mission (NHM).
She contributed to discussions on strengthening public–private collaboration, aligning maternal health initiatives, and addressing operational challenges faced by practicing obstetricians. Her participation reflected strong advocacy and leadership on behalf of the private healthcare community.

CME on “Diabetes in Pregnancy” Conducted at Dr. Mehta’s Hospital

A Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on “Diabetes in Pregnancy” was conducted at Dr. Mehta’s Hospital on 18th February 2026. The session focused on screening protocols, management strategies, maternal–fetal risks, and evidence‑based approaches for optimizing outcomes in both gestational and pre‑gestational diabetes.

The program provided valuable updates for clinicians involved in antenatal care, strengthening knowledge and improving clinical practices in managing high‑risk pregnancies.

Dr. K. Nedunchelian Served as Adviser and Mentor for the IAP–CCB RAPP Program

Dr. K. Nedunchelian, Consultant – Pediatrics, participated as the Adviser and Mentor for the program “Research Assistance for the Postgraduates and Practitioners (RAPP)” organized by the IAP Chennai City Branch (IAP‑CCB).

The session was held online on 19 February 2026 at 5 PM and focused on guiding postgraduate students and practicing pediatricians in research methodology, scientific writing, and effective academic planning.

Dr. Nedunchelian’s mentorship contributed significantly to strengthening research skills among young clinicians, encouraging quality academic work within the pediatric community.

First City Level Critical Care Nursing Workshop

The ICU Department successfully conducted the First City-Level Critical Care Nursing Workshop in Chennai, attended by 65 nursing professionals from hospitals across the city. The workshop strengthened critical care knowledge and enhanced clinical readiness for managing critically ill patients.

The academic session, organized by the Anterior Wall Reconstruction Surgical Community, brought together senior surgeons and academicians for an in‑depth discussion on contemporary strategies in inguinal hernia repair.

Dr. Mangalabarathi Receives National Best Publication Award, Pediatric Research

We are delighted to share that Dr. Mangalabarathi, Consultant Neonatologist, has achieved a remarkable national honor. Our recent research publication in Pediatric Research has been awarded the Best Publication (First Prize) for the year, selected from among 123 DHR Multidisciplinary Research Units across India.

The honour was presented by distinguished national leaders including the Hon’ble Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, the Chairman of the National Medical Commission, and the Director General of ICMR, along with several esteemed dignitaries.

This achievement places Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals prominently on the national map of neonatal and nephrology research excellence, and we take pride in the dedication and expertise of our team.

Dr. Pradeepkumar Delivered a Talk and Chaired a Scientific Session at TNOACON 2026

Dr. Pradeepkumar, Consultant, Orthopedics, delivered an insightful talk on “Shoulder Arthroscopy – Rotator Cuff Repair” at the Tamil Nadu Orthopedic Association Conference (TNOACON) 2026. His session highlighted modern arthroscopic techniques, repair principles, and advancements in shoulder preservation surgery.

He also served as the Chairperson for the Arthroscopy Gold Medal Paper Session, overseeing high‑quality scientific presentations and facilitating academic discussion among orthopedic specialists.

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer Presented Three Original Scientific Papers at IAGES–ELSA 2026

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer, Deputy Head, Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, had the distinction of presenting three original scientific papers originating from Dr. Mehta’s Hospital at the IAGES–ELSA 2026 Conference held in Mumbai.

Dr. Makesh Ram Awarded the Prestigious TNOA Dr. Xavier Medal in Hand Surgery

Dr. Makesh Ram, Orthopedic Surgeon, has been honored with the TNOA Dr. Xavier Medal in Hand Surgery, a prestigious recognition celebrating his excellence, clinical expertise, and significant contribution to the field of orthopedic and hand surgery.

Dr. M. Edwin Fernando Represents ISNSC to Confer Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. M. Edwin Fernando, Consultant Nephrologist, had the proud privilege of conferring the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian Society of Nephrology – Southern Chapter to Prof. B. R. Nammalwar in recognition of his exemplary and dedicated service to the field of Nephrology.

As Prof. Nammalwar was unable to travel to the conference venue, Dr. Edwin Fernando personally visited his residence to present the honour, marking a moment of deep respect and gratitude for his decades of contribution to pediatric and adult nephrology.

This gesture reflects our institution’s commitment to celebrating pioneers who have shaped the progress of medical science and inspired generations of clinicians.

Dr. M. D. Ilavarasan Demonstrates Pediatric Orthopedic Surgical Technique at TNOACON 2026

Dr. M. D. Ilavarasan, Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, was invited as Faculty at TNOACON 2026, held at Tenkasi.

He demonstrated a specialized surgical technique on the pinning of supracondylar humerus fractures in children, sharing practical insights and operative nuances with fellow orthopedic surgeons and trainees.

His participation highlighted the department’s expertise in pediatric orthopedic trauma care and contributed to the academic strength of the conference.

Dr. Ruchita Wins First Prize at National IMS Quiz Competition

Congratulations to Dr. Ruchita, our Second‑Year DGO Postgraduate, for bringing pride to Dr. Mehta’s Hospital.

She represented the Chennai Menopause Society in the National IMS Quiz Competition held at Bhopal and emerged as the First Prize Winner.

Her achievement reflects her strong academic commitment, remarkable clinical knowledge, and dedication to excellence. This accomplishment also highlights the high standards of training and mentorship within our institution.

Dr. Prabhakar D Contributed Multiple Academic Sessions at HFAI 2026

Dr. Prabhakar D, Consultant Cardiologist, delivered significant academic contributions at HFAI 2026. He presented two focused talks:

  • AI in Heart Failure
  • Assessment of LV Function in LBBB

Both sessions offered practical insights into emerging technologies and clinical evaluation strategies in heart failure management.

He also participated as an Expert Discussant in one scientific session, adding valuable perspectives to panel deliberations. In addition, Dr. Prabhakar recorded five educational podcasts as part of the Heart Failure to Success series, contributing to wider cardiology learning and outreach.

Dr. Premalatha, Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology, delivered an engaging talk on “Prevention of Osteoporosis” at the IMSCON Conference held in Bhopal.

Her session highlighted early screening strategies, lifestyle modification, nutrition and vitamin optimization, fracture‑risk assessment, and evidence‑based approaches to long‑term bone health.

Dr. Vijayakumar Delivered a Talk at Clinilabfest 2026

Dr. Vijayakumar, Department of Laboratory Sciences, delivered an insightful session on “Challenges in Interpreting and Reporting Abnormal Biochemical Test Results” at Clinilabfest 2026.

Dr. Hemchand Prasad presented an experience‑based talk on “Real‑World Experience in the Management of Pediatric Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD) With Long‑Acting Growth Hormone.”
He discussed evolving treatment strategies, clinical benefits of long‑acting formulations, adherence advantages, and outcomes from real‑life practice settings.
His session offered valuable insights for pediatric endocrinologists and pediatricians involved in managing growth disorders, highlighting advancements that improve long‑term patient outcomes.

Dr. Ramya Presented a Case Series at the Growth Symposium – ISPAE & IAP CCB

Dr. Ramya, DNB Pediatric Postgraduate, presented an insightful case series titled:
“Children Born Small for Gestational Age Treated with Combined Growth Hormone – Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Agonist Therapy: A Series of 4 Cases.”

This presentation was delivered at the Growth Symposium organized by the Indian Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology (ISPAE) in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics – Chennai City Branch (IAP‑CCB) on 8th February 2026.

Her work highlighted real‑world clinical outcomes, therapeutic challenges, and long‑term growth benefits associated with combined GH–GnRHa therapy in SGA children. The presentation showcased strong clinical reasoning and added valuable pediatric endocrine insights to the academic forum.

On 8th February 2026, Dr. Premalatha served as Chairperson for the session titled “United by Unique Personalized Approach in Breast & Gynecologic Cancers.”

Postgraduate trainees Dr. Nazma Y. and Dr. Pratheep Selected for Finals in Paediatric Gastroenterology Quiz

Dr. Nazma Y. and Dr. Pratheep, postgraduate trainees, participated in the Paediatric Gastroenterology Quiz held at Dr. Mehta’s Hospital on 10th February 2026.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH) Program – Commenced

The Department of Pediatrics has officially commenced the Diploma in Child Health (DCH) program.

  • Two candidates have joined the program from 10.02.2026 onwards.
  • Regular academic classes and structured teaching sessions will be carried out as part of the curriculum.
  • The program will be implemented strictly as per NBE norms.
  • Senior Pediatricians from both the GC and Main Campus will be involved in training and mentorship.
Dr. S. Thangavelu Delivered “CXR Interpretation by Pediatrician for Pediatrician – Part 1” in the IAP TNSC Radiology Series

As part of the IAP TNSC Radiology Series, Dr. S. Thangavelu conducted the focused session “CXR Interpretation by Pediatrician for Pediatrician – Part 1.”
He guided participants through a structured, practical approach to chest X‑ray evaluation, addressing common interpretation errors, radiographic patterns, and clinical correlation.
The session strengthened participants’ diagnostic skills, particularly for evaluating respiratory conditions in routine pediatric practice.

Dr. Premalatha Moderated a Session on Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Infection in Pregnancy

Dr. Premalatha was the Moderator for the session discussing “Cytomegalovirus Infection in Pregnancy: A Comparative Review of Guidelines” (Aikaterini Raptopoulou et al.).
She guided an in‑depth review of international guidelines, clinical challenges, fetal implications, and screening strategies. The session helped clinicians refine decision‑making in managing CMV during pregnancy.

On 14th February 2026, Dr. Premalatha delivered a talk on “Hormonal Harmony – MHT in 2026,” focusing on modern menopause hormone therapy.

Under the IAP TNSC Presidential Action Plan 2026, Dr. S. Thangavelu delivered a comprehensive talk on “CXR Interpretation in ER & PICU – Part 1.”
He discussed rapid assessment techniques essential in emergency and critical care settings, emphasising early identification of red‑flag signs, acute pathologies, and life‑threatening conditions.

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer Invited as Faculty Speaker at YURPEAK Cascade Meeting

Dr. Nabeel Nazeer, Deputy Head, Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, was invited by Team Cipla (Obesity Division) as a Faculty Speaker for the YURPEAK Cascade Meeting.

The scientific session focused on contemporary perspectives in obesity management, highlighting:

  • the evolving role of pharmacotherapy as an adjunct to lifestyle modification,
  • integration of medication with surgical and non‑surgical approaches, and
